I thought I knew what love is then
I tasted the salt in tears,
The bitterness of separation
And dashed my knowing to a heap on the ground
While the saline tracks sloughed through the dust in my eye
Leaving a stinging path behind,
The pith clung to tongue keeping the bitterness still,
Just a while longer until
From within the silence
Something stirs,
An awareness dawns:
I awaken and know love again.
