Whole House Prime

3.3.17

My Whole House Chart has Aquarius as my Ascendant in the 1st House, Moon in Virgo in 8th House, and Sun in Libra in the 9th House.  So the Houses that the Planets, which stayed in the degrees of Sign they were already in, but the Houses changed between the Whole Sign House Sidereal Chart and the Lahiri Sidereal Placidus Chart.

Aquarius:: 27 degrees in the 3rd pada of Purva Bhadrapada which is controlled by Jupiter yet ruled by Mercury, Fixed, Air, ruled by Saturn (Uranus? in some systems), usually in 10th House here in the 1st.  There’s no planetary activity in my 1st House.  Or in the 7th where Leo sits.

Where is it’s Lord?  Saturn is in the 6th House in 22 degrees Cancer, opposite Capricorn in the 12th (empty), who Saturn also rules.

Moon at 10 degrees in 1st Pada Hasta controlled by Moon with that pada ruled by Mars in Virgo:: Mutable, Earth, ruled by Mercury which is at 23 degrees in 1st Pada Chittra controlled by Lord Mars and pada ruled by Sun, they are together in the 8th House in Virgo, along with Pluto at 18 degrees 3rd Pada Hasta ruled by Mercury, opposite empty Pisces in 2nd.. . . so the 8th House residents are occupying Hasta and Chittra

Sun at 4 degrees Chittra  whose Lord is Mars and in 4th Pada also ruled by Mars in Libra:: Cardinal, Air, ruled by Venus, usually in the 7th House, here they are in the 9th House with Mars at 15 degrees Svati whose Lord is Rahu in 3rd Pada ruled by Saturn and Uranus at 13 degrees Svati also 3rd Pada ruled by Saturn with Rahu, the Lord of Svati at 10 degrees  in 2nd Pada where the ruler is Saturn . . . Mars is associative ruler of the 1st House Aries, which is occupied by Aquarius whose modern ruler Uranus is here with Sun and Mars in Libra.  Where’s Libra’s Lord Venus?  Next door in 10th House, Scorpio 7 degrees Anuradha, with Neptune at 18 degrees in Jyeshta.  Opposite 3rd House, with Taurus and Jupiter present at 6 degrees Krittika.

A reiteration:::

The planets represent the the “Who“, as in the type of energy, force, personality, or power expressed. The planets rule signs and visit houses.

The signs represent the “How”, as in how the type of planetary energy is expressed, the way its power is applied because the Signs provide resources for use.

The signs have associations of rulership over houses in a natural chart, Aries – Pisces corresponding to Houses 1 – 12.

The houses represent the “Where”, as in the areas, fields, meadows, streambanks, neighbourhoods, villages, sectors, or vectors of life that the energy will play out shaping a type of neighborhood story.

The Planets are anchors, they are ambassadors, it is the planets who unfold the story and the Signs and Nakshatras they occupy, but primarily Planets are the key, everything else helps understand the nature of the key.  Without Houses you’d have no idea where the focus of a planet, what area of life, it was acting in . . . .

The Greek term for the ascendant in Hellenistic astrology was horoskopos, which literally means “hour-marker.” The original function and purpose of the ascendant was that it was used to “mark” or designate the zodiacal sign that was rising over the eastern horizon. Once the rising sign was marked by the ascendant, it became the first whole sign house.

Whatever sign is rising, no matter how early or late in the sign the degree of the ascendant may be, that entire sign from 0 to 30 degrees becomes the first house. Then the next sign in zodiacal order becomes the 2nd house, and the sign after that becomes the 3rd house, and so on. Thus the name “whole sign houses.”

There are 12 signs and 12 houses, and this is actually the reason that we have 12 houses instead of some other number such as 8 or 36 or what have you.

  • The houses and signs work together. I regard the houses as our inner ecliptic, and it really makes no odds which hemisphere you are in either!
  •  Whole sign houses correspond to 12 months. Roughly 29 days = 30 degs.
  • The Signs do not fight with the Fixed stars because they are taken off the ecliptic ring and are contained within the house meanings.

In the whole sign house system, sometimes referred to as the ‘Sign-House system’, the houses are 30° each. The ascendant designates the rising sign, and the first house begins at zero degrees of the zodiac sign in which the ascendant falls, regardless of how early or late in that sign the ascendant is. The next sign after the ascending sign then becomes the 2nd house, the sign after that the 3rd house, and so on. In other words, each house is wholly filled by one sign.

The distinction between equal houses and whole sign houses lies in the fact that in whole sign houses the cusp of the 1st house is the beginning of the sign that contains the ascendant, while in equal houses the degree of the ascendant is itself the cusp of the 1st house.
